45 educational partner schools worldwide

English education is fundamental to internationalization. At Okisho, we are proud of our teaching staff, what they teach in their classes and the support they give students to help them pass the Eiken examination. There are many English teachers in our school who have graduated from English-speaking universities or graduate schools, and we invite three to four TAs (Teaching Assistants) each year from our partner schools (St. John's University, St. Benedict's University, St. Mary's University, Washington State University). The Japanese and American teachers work together to teach students all aspects of English.
In addition to the International Department of Humanities and Sciences at our school, other courses offer students the opportunity to use and practice practical English.
Regarding the content of the lessons, we are not only conscious of university entrance examinations, but also teach and encourage students to continue learning English after graduating from high school. TAs are playing an active role in teaching "learn English by ear" for students preparing for the National Center Test for University Admissions (Center Shiken) to improve their listening skills (oral comprehension). Encouragement to take the EIKEN Tests (Test in Practical English Proficiency) has great advantages from the viewpoint of university entrance examinations as well as from the viewpoint that students can benefit from their new levels of English to establish relationships on an international level, allowing them to learn about different cultures or ways of thinking. Grade Pre-2 EIKEN certificate holders will be able to communicate in English to some extent; however, Grade 2 or higher certificate holders will benefit considerably more when applying to universities including at a few of our partner schools in the U.S. We provide ESL (English as a Second Language) programs for students to receive lectures by experts sent from the universities (educational partner schools) in U.S., in the prefecture. We also have short-term study abroad and annual study abroad programs with high schools (educational partner schools) in the U.S. Many students participate in these programs. Okisho provides opportunities for students to attend local ESL (English as a Second Language) summer camps taught by university faculty (from our partner schools), as well as long-term study abroad programs in our partner high schools. Many students participate in these programs.

Study abroad and educational partner schools

We have overseas educational partner schools (12 universities and 5 high schools in the U.S., 6 high schools in Australia, 3 high schools in China, 1 junior high school and 3 high schools in Taiwan, 1 high school in Brazil, 1 secondary school in Finland, 3 high schools in Indonesia, 1 junior & high school, 2 junior high schools, 2 high schools, 4 universities in Japan). In the prefecture our school has the largest number of overseas partner schools. Every year, 70 students experience overseas living, making use of our own study abroad programs and overseas English training programs, including those who use the government-funded or prefectural government-sponsored study abroad programs. After graduating from high school, students who enroll in a partner university in the U.S. are also able to take advantage of the university's scholarship program. See "Study Abroad Programs" for details.
